UK snow maps show 3-day barrage hitting 10 counties with -6C freeze – full list | Weather | News

The UK is bracing for more snowfall as winter arrives and temperatures drop to -6C in the coming weeks. New maps from WXCHARTS, using MetDesk data, reveal wintry weather from Dec. 17-19. Snow is expected across Scotland and parts of North West England in the run-up to Christmas.

Scotland will bear the brunt of unstable conditions, with snowfall forecast from Cape Wrath in the north to West Dumbartonshire. In England, around 1 mm of dust per hour occurs in regions such as Manchester, Stoke-on-Trent and Birmingham.

Temperatures are also expected to fall across the UK, with parts of the Scottish Highlands reaching -9C on 19 December. While much of the UK will be slightly warmer, the North West can also reach a chilling -4C.

Separately, the Met Office’s forecast for 10-19 December says: “A short period of mainly calm weather is expected for the first few days of this period, with no rain or showers in the far north or west and the rest of the UK mostly dry.”

“From now on, low pressure systems will tend to become dominant, bringing showers or longer rain to much of the UK. Some heavy rain or showers are expected, with the wettest conditions overall in the west of the UK.

“Snow is likely to remain on higher ground in the north. Periods of strong winds are possible, particularly if deep areas of low pressure develop around the coasts and near the UK. Temperatures are likely to be close to or slightly above average.”
