UK snow maps show 33-hour ‘blizzard’ to hit Britain – 13 counties affected | Weather | News

Some parts of the UK are expected to be hit by a 33-hour blizzard as temperatures drop to -4C in the coming days. Weather maps from WXCharts show that snowy conditions are likely to affect parts of the country between 9pm on February 5th and 6am on February 7th.

Weather maps turned white and purple during this period, indicating that wintry conditions were likely. WXCharts maps show that many counties in England and Scotland will be covered in snow. Maps suggested around 13 counties across the UK would be affected by bitterly cold conditions.

The long-term weather forecast for February 6 to 15 reads: “Frontal systems driven by a jet stream shifting south over the Atlantic are likely to approach the UK at times, but will tend to stall when they encounter a high-pressure blocking area to the north and north-east.

“This will cause more rain to fall at times, falling on areas already susceptible to flooding. “As these rainbands spread northward, some snow will be possible across northern England and Scotland, mostly on higher ground, as they encounter colder air.

“A slight shift of these low pressure areas towards the south is expected in the second week of February, which could cause colder air to spread across larger parts of the UK, including the south, increasing the risk of wintry danger for a period.”
