UK to be warmer than Istanbul this weekend as Britons get break from wintry weather

Britons are preparing for a respite from the harsh winter weather this weekend, with temperatures set to be warmer in some parts of the UK than in popular tourist destinations such as Istanbul and Athens.

Temperatures will reach 14C in Exeter this Saturday, with a high of 13C in London, Birmingham, Peterborough and Cardiff.

According to the Met Office, temperatures in the UK on Sunday will be warmer than Istanbul in Türkiye, where the temperature will be just 5C. Meanwhile, the UK will see temperatures as high as 13C. Temperatures may be equal to or higher than those in Athens, where temperatures are expected to be 12C on Sunday.

Temperatures are up 10 degrees on those experienced in recent days, providing a much-needed and welcome break from the cold gloom experienced so far this year.

While London will enjoy 13C, temperatures in the UK will range from 7 to 13C

The Met Office predicted conditions on Saturday would be “drier and brighter in the east” and the weather would be “sunniest in Shetland”.

The forecaster added that it would be “fairly cloudy, with showers or drizzle towards the northeast” and that this would be “the heaviest rainfall over the hills to the west”.

There will also be “windy conditions with strong winds, but overall very mild weather.”

The Met Office predicts that Sunday will be brighter but there may be showers in the north.

The weather has been bleak so far this year, with record flooding and prolonged rainfall in some parts of the UK.

This week also saw yellow weather warnings for snow and ice in parts of the country; Up to 15 cm of snow was expected on Wednesday and Thursday.

The UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) has also issued a cold alert starting at 6am on Friday and likely to last until 8am on Monday.

Researchers at Newcastle University have warned that turbulent weather in the UK is a result of climate change. They warn that winters in the UK are becoming “significantly wetter” and there is a dramatic increase in flood risks due to increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Their data show that for every degree of global or regional warming, precipitation increases by almost 7 percent.
