UK train stabbing injures multiple; Nationals net zero target to be scrapped; Louvre jewels robbery executed by small-time criminals

Independent MP Monique Ryan this morning criticized the Coalition for division over net zero, claiming they were “heading towards electoral oblivion”.

I’m talking to Nine’s Today Ryan said after the National Party announced yesterday that it was abandoning net zero.[The Coalition] I don’t know what they believe. I think they’re trying to look at polls or a popularity contest. This is an important issue and Australia knows climate change is real. They know we have to do something about this. They are looking for political leaders for leadership.

“They don’t understand. And I think they’re driving themselves over the cliff, both in terms of their electoral prospects and what that means for the political parties. This is a critical time for the Coalition. You know, they really need to look at themselves and look at what their guiding principles are, if they have any, and get back to them. If they don’t do that, they’re heading towards electoral oblivion.”

The Nats’ new policy will focus on: National Party leader David Littleproud said yesterday that climate adaptation and reducing carbon emissions are important..

Three sources who spoke to this imprint on condition of anonymity said moderates would prefer to split the Coalition rather than abandoning the net-zero emissions target altogether, and some were willing to leave the front lines over the issue.

“The Liberal Party has lost two elections at net zero and looks set to drag itself into an existential crisis here. It’s a bit sad because we need an effective opposition, but at this point we’re not going to get that from the Nationals or the Liberals in this term of government,” Ryan said.
