A family haulage company that went into administration in the UK was bought, saving 61 jobs and logistics jobs. The business and assets of Freight Movement Limited, headquartered in Newport, South Wales, are owned by Monex Distribution Ltd. It was bought out of management by , and in the process, 61 people were laid off in the logistics business.
The administrator of Freight Movement, which opened in 1998, appointed Huw Powell and Katrina Orum of BTG Begbies Traynor as Joint Administrators on 6 March 2026 after revenue losses following the closure of a warehouse, rising costs, bad debts and other factors led to the company’s collapse. But just a few days later, family-owned Monex Distribution Ltd, part of the Monex Group freight network, acquired the business and its assets, with an option for Freight Movement’s 50,000 square meter warehouse, through a pre-pack management process.
The statement said that the result provided the best return for creditors and meant that there was no disruption to deliveries and services to customers. At its peak, Freight Movement operated an extensive fleet of vehicles in the contract logistics, pallet network and general transportation sectors from small shipments to full loads. It also provided instant shipments and next-day services.

Serving blue chip customers and small businesses, it delivered in the UK and with partners to Europe and beyond. It handled a wide range of goods including automotive, marine, industrial, construction, home furnishings, garden furniture, fine art, toys, gifts, electrical products as well as exhibition and live event cargo.
James Howells, Group CEO of Monex Group Limited, said: “We are delighted to have agreed to acquire such an established company with a strong heritage and retain the many skilled employees at Freight Movement in the process.
“The company has built a strong network over almost three decades and we look forward to reinvigorating this network by bringing our teams together. We fully believe there is significant potential in this business under the Monex Group banner and that it can grow once again. Our location in the UK and connections beyond the new addition to our family make us stronger and more competitive.”

BTG partner Huw Powell said: “The freight industry has faced significant challenges post-Brexit and COVID, with well-publicized driver shortages and rising costs making it difficult for small businesses to utilize capacity and achieve profitability. Despite 26 years of trading and having fallen on tough times over the years before, Freight Movement has not been able to overcome these challenges, but we are delighted to have secured a sale to Monex Group.”
“As the company is experiencing serious cash flow issues, a pre-packaged sale was necessary to deliver this outcome, where employees’ jobs are protected and customers experience no disruption to services. “As part of the Monex Group, Freight Movement’s former employees and customers are in safe hands and we are confident that we can see the business re-establish itself and grow in the future.
“We would like to thank Paul and Sam Hurley for their support, as well as the leadership team at Monex Group for quickly executing the sale. We would also like to thank Blake Morgan, Gavel Auctioneers, NP Linnells and PME Consulting Services for their support of the company and directors, and RDP Law, who acted on behalf of Monex on the transaction, for moving quickly throughout the process to make this all possible.”
