UK weather forecast as brutal 10C drop to replace April heat in hours | Weather | News

While temperatures are predicted to drop by as much as 10 degrees in some areas, Brits basking in the glorious April sunshine will want to make the most of it as the weather won’t last long. Today (April 8) is on track to be the warmest day since September 19, 2025, when the temperature reached 27.8°C in St James’s Park in London and the mercury was nearly 10°C above average in early April.

According to BBC weather maps, at 4pm London will be warmer than Cairo in Egypt and Athens in Greece. However, the warm weather won’t last for long, with the Met Office warning that tomorrow night will “feel noticeably colder than recent nights and there will be a risk of frost in some areas.” The forecaster said showers would become “more common” as “temperatures drop significantly from Wednesday”. Netweather senior forecaster Jo Farrow said a flow from the northwest would follow Thursday’s cold front, causing temperatures to drop.

Rain will move in from the fronts, followed by showers, and the mercury will drop 10 degrees with air flow from near Greenland.

After an incredible 26C, temperatures in London are expected to drop to 15C on Friday. South Wales temperatures will drop from 22C to 12C, Yorkshire will drop from 22C to 11C and Aberdeenshire will record a drop from 18C to 8C.

Netweather’s senior forecaster said: “This has been an incredible week with Storm Dave on Saturday night, snow on Easter Sunday and then an incredible temperature rise in early April.

“Frost and snow in the Scottish highlands are likely to be expected by the end of the working week.”

WXCHARTS weather maps show the sharp temperature drop, turning a noticeably cold blue.

Maps show temperatures could be as low as -2C across much of Scotland by around 6am on Friday, while elsewhere it could be just a few degrees higher.

The northernmost parts of England may struggle to get above freezing, with temperatures ranging between 0 and 4 degrees across much of the country.

The Met Office weather forecast for Friday to Sunday says: “Unstable, with bands of more rain and showers across Friday and weekend.

“Some drier, brighter interludes developing in between with temperatures near or sometimes slightly below average.”
