UK weather mapped: Storm Dave to hit with 90mph winds over Easter bank holiday weekend

The UK is gearing up for the winter weekend after multiple wind and snow warnings were issued across the country ahead of Storm Dave’s arrival on Saturday.
Scotland, Northern Ireland, North Wales and parts of northern England will be under warnings from Saturday evening until the early hours of Easter Sunday.
Widespread wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph are expected in all warning areas; Wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph are possible in exposed areas. Winds will be accompanied by heavy snowfall in the north of Scotland, where “blizzard conditions” are expected.

Met Office deputy chief forecaster Tom Crabtree said: “Storm Dave will form and deepen rapidly as it approaches the UK from the west on Saturday.
“As well as strong winds, Storm Dave will bring heavy snowfall to the hills in northern Scotland, where up to 10-20cm of snow could accumulate. Combined with strong winds, this will lead to blizzard conditions. There will be heavy rain elsewhere as the system moves eastwards across the UK.
“With Storm Dave just days away, people should prepare their properties for strong winds and monitor the latest weather forecasts as weather alerts are likely to be updated.”

The yellow wind warning will come into force for areas in North East England, North West England, South West Scotland, Lothian Borders, Strathclyde, Wales and Yorkshire & Humber from 5pm on Saturday and will remain in force until 7am on Sunday.

Storm Dave is expected to bring wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph to these areas Saturday night.
The rest of Scotland is under a wind warning from 6pm on Saturday until noon on Sunday, with winds of 80 to 90 miles per hour possible in open areas.
A snow warning is also in place for Central, Tayside & Fife, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar and Strathclyde, where up to 5 to 10cm of snow could accumulate in areas above 200m in elevation. Temperatures could drop to 0C in northern parts of Scotland on Saturday morning.
A 12-hour wind warning will be issued for Northern Ireland from 2pm on Saturday, with strong winds likely to cause damage and disruption to travel.
