UK weather maps show 11 counties buried by snow in March – full list | Weather | News

The latest weather maps show temperatures will drop again in the UK later this month, bringing the risk of snow after a period of mild weather.
WXCharts.com’s weather forecast says snow could return and hit the UK on March 28. Maps published by the forecaster show snow falling across the north of England.
Scotland could see up to 8cm of snow, while England is likely to be hit from the north and northwest.
However, before this, much milder weather may be experienced in England starting this week. Several parts of the UK could see temperatures rise to 19°C on Wednesday, possibly even 20°C in a new forecast. Forecasters say warm, pleasant spring weather will develop across much of the country this week, bringing sunny skies and rising temperatures for many.
Met Office chief forecaster Dan Harris said: “Wednesday looks set to be the hottest day of the week for many, with high pressure prevailing.”
He added: “The hottest spots are likely to be in parts of West Wales and West England, where it could be 18-19°C under sunny skies, possibly even 20°C. “This is due to the additional increase expected from the passage of east to south-east winds over high ground, known as the Foehn effect.
“This week there will be a large daily temperature range, which is the difference between the maximum daytime temperature and the minimum nighttime temperature. Thanks to clear skies during the day, we will see some cold nights after warmer days, with a few places experiencing frost.”

The Met Office added that temperatures will fall back towards seasonal averages on Friday.
Meteorologists say the rise in temperatures will be helped by east to southeast winds moving over higher ground (a phenomenon known as the Foehn effect), which can cause the air to warm as it moves down the other side of the hills and mountains.
Despite the spring warmth during the daytime, forecasters warned that nights could remain cool due to clear skies, creating a large contrast between daytime highs and nighttime lows. Even frost may occur in some areas.
