UK weather maps show 24 cities blanketed by snow from Scotland to Brighton | Weather | News

The latest weather maps show a significant part of the UK will experience snow next weekend, with some cities expected to experience wintry conditions. A cold snap has hit the UK and temperatures will drop well below freezing across much of the country in the coming days. Winter is well and truly here for much of Britain and some areas could see temperatures drop as low as minus 9 this week as the warm conditions fade away.
The latest maps from WXCharts show which areas will be affected, including many major cities across the country. The snow stretches from the northern tip of Scotland to the seaside city of Brighton on England’s south coast. But it looks like the snow will dissipate and some cities will be spared. Snow is expected in large parts of Scotland and England on Sunday, November 23.
But it will snow in Scotland much sooner than that. Weather maps show large parts of Scotland covered in snow from tomorrow (Tuesday 18 November); Snowfall intensifies the next day, reaching depths of approximately 7.9 inches in some places.
When the snow comes to the UK it won’t be as heavy. The heaviest snow in England this week is expected to be two to three inches deep. Meanwhile, small areas in Northern Ireland and Wales are expected to see snow this Thursday, but it is likely to pass by the following day.
The provinces where snow is expected this Sunday are as follows:
- inverness
- Glasgow
- Aberdeen
- Dundee
- perth
- lancaster
- Blackpool
- preston
- Ripon
- Leeds
- York
- wakefield
- Kingston upon Hull
- Bradford
- derby
- Lichfield
- peterborough
- Cambridge
- Luton
- St Albans
- London
- Canterbury
- Dover
- Brighton
The Met Office said the UK could experience some rain and snowfall over the next few days. It predicts that starting Sunday, the Atlantic weather front will “continue to spread eastward, potentially bringing fairly widespread rain or showers.”
“Spushy conditions are likely to continue over the coming days, but there will also be brighter spells from time to time,” the current forecast says. “There is also the possibility that Atlantic frontal systems will move from the west from time to time and cause some winter showers due to transient periods of flow from the north.
“Temperatures will be slightly below normal. A westerly dominated pattern will likely continue through the end of November, with rain or showers and temperatures near or slightly below normal.”
