Ukraine’s Deadliest Night Of 2025: Russia Fires 470 Drones And 48 Missiles In One Go, Turns Ternopil To Ash | World News

Kyiv: The western Ukrainian city of Ternopil woke up to devastation after a violent barrage occurred overnight, killing at least 25 people and injuring 73, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs. The ministry said three children were among those who lost their lives when entire residential blocks were heavily attacked just after midnight.

Authorities described a frantic rescue operation that continued until the morning. State Emergency Service and National Police teams used 45 units of special equipment, including robotic systems, to search for survivors as they worked around burning buildings and collapsed walls.

The ministry confirmed the death toll in a message to X and said response teams were still combing through debris in many neighborhoods. The bombardment triggered massive fires in nine-storey apartment buildings that took hours to bring under control.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the strike was part of a broader offensive spanning multiple regions, involving more than 470 attack aircraft and 48 different types of missiles. He said one of the missiles was ballistic and the others were cruise missiles launched in waves throughout the night.

Zelenskyy said Ternopil was among the worst-hit areas. He described “significant destruction” in the city and said emergency workers were trying to reach people believed to be trapped under collapsed structures.

He wrote to X that teams in many regions intervened after attacks targeting residential areas and public infrastructure.

The president also shared details about Kharkiv, where a separate wave of attacks injured dozens of residents, including children, and damaged key transport links and energy supply points. He said the attacks did not save Ivano-Frankivsk, where three people, including two children, were injured.

Other attacks were recorded in the Lviv, Donetsk, Kiev, Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, Cherkasy and Dnipro regions, hitting energy facilities and civilian areas.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine needs air defense missiles, additional defense systems, fighter jet support and more drone production to prevent further casualties. He said the ongoing conflict has entered its fourth year and Russia must take responsibility for ongoing attacks.

Ukraine also highlighted a number of commitments made during Zelenskyy’s recent visits to Greece, France and Spain. The President said the three countries have pledged new security and economic support worth more than 515 million euros.

He said Greece had agreed to guarantee gas supplies for the winter and expand its role as an energy hub for the region. France confirmed plans to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities and outlined a long-term agreement that includes 100 Rafale F4 aircraft, SAMP/T air defense systems, advanced radar technology and additional military assistance by 2035.

Spain also announced new support, including €100 million for air defense missiles, €215 million for the SAFE vehicle, €200 million for the Ukrainian energy sector and a package including IRIS-T missiles.
