Ukraine’s top general says Ukraine stopped Russian advances in northern Sumy region

Kiev (Reuters) -Kraine’s forces stopped Russian progress in the border region of Sumy this week.

“The progress of Russian troops in the border regions of the Sumy region was stopped and the war line was stabilized.” He said.

In April, Russia had removed Ukrainian forces from the Western Russian Kursk region and ordered President Vladimir Putin to follow their forces by making a “buffer zone” in the adjacent Sumy region.

After Russia’s progress in early June, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that his troops pushed the attacks and caught the village of Andriivka again.

Syrskyi said that additional fortifications and defense measures should be done faster in the region, including the creation of anti-donation corridors.

“Primary tasks are to strengthen the fortifications and create the system of engineering and arbitration barriers.” He said.
