Marc Guehi transfer news: Man City sign Crystal Palace captain for £20m

City started negotiations with 25-year-old Guehi earlier this month, following the injuries of defenders Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias.
For Saturday’s defeat against neighbors Manchester United, City fielded a back four comprising three players aged 21 or under – Rico Lewis, Abdukodir Khusanov and Max Alleyne – alongside 30-year-old Nathan Ake. Alleyne was replaced by 20-year-old Nico O’Reilly at half-time.
Defense was their biggest weakness against United, who won the game 2-0, and Guehi’s arrival will add much-needed experience and quality to City’s backline.
According to statistics compiled since the beginning of last season, Guehi is in the top 10 among Premier League centre-backs in terms of clean sheets, duels won, aerial duels won and passes over the line. This season he is in the top 10 in tackles, recoveries and duel successes.
He will also provide strong leadership, having captained Palace to victory over City in the FA Cup final last May and playing a key role in England’s run to the 2024 European Championship final.
