United Breweries Launches Project Jal Shakti in Telangana

Sangareddy: United Breweries Limited (UBL), part of HEINEKEN Company, has launched Project Jal Shakti, its flagship CSR initiative in the region.

The project, implemented in partnership with BharatCares, aims to promote sustainable agriculture, improve groundwater recharge and increase biodiversity. As part of the initiative, two Centers of Excellence (CoEs) powered by renewable energy have been established to support farmers and local communities.

The initiative covers the gram panchayats of Malkapur, Kothlapur, Guntapalley, Gopulapuram, Haridaspur and Malepally. UBL and BharatCares will support farmers by promoting sustainable farming practices through CoEs and provide training on soil and water conservation to help improve crop productivity. The centers are equipped with automatic weather stations that provide real-time weather data, as well as soil testing laboratories to enable conscious and efficient farming practices.

The project includes the development of a new check dam, the rejuvenation of an existing check dam and the deepening and widening of three irrigation canals to strengthen local water security. Additionally, more than 1,200 local saplings are being planted to support ecosystem restoration.

The launch event was attended by Geetu Gidwani Verma (Chairman, CSR and ESG Committee, UBL), Yolanda Talamo (Member, CSR and ESG Committee, UBL), Garima Singh (Head, Corporate Affairs, UBL), Bhomik Shah (Board of Trustees, BharatCares) and Pentani Praveen Kumar (Sarpanch, Kothlapur Gram Panchayat), who appreciated the collaborative approach of the project.

Speaking about the initiative, Garima Singh, Corporate Affairs Director, United Breweries Limited, said: “The Jal Shakti Project reflects our long-term efforts towards sustainable agriculture and water management in the communities where we operate. By combining farmer capacity building, water conservation infrastructure, agroforestry and Centers of Excellence, we strive to create resilient livelihoods while restoring local ecosystems. Partnerships like this deliver scalable and lasting impact for communities.”

Bhomik Shah, Trustee of BharatCares, added: “Through the project, we are working closely with communities to promote sustainable farming practices and improve water availability. CoEs will play a critical role in building long-term resilience for farmers in the region.”
