While firefighters intervened, the roof structure of the building became unusable due to the flames.

Two people affected by smoke were taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital and treated, while other people were treated at the scene.

Five residents have been displaced and are being assisted by the Ministry of Housing in finding alternative accommodation.

WA Police’s arson squad is investigating the fire amid concerns the fire was deliberately lit by a male who was seen fleeing the area a short time later.

A spokesman said police were appealing to the public for information.

“While one house was destroyed in the fire, two neighboring houses were also damaged,” he said.

“Arson Squad officers are appealing for anyone who saw any suspicious activity around Erpingham Road or has information regarding this fire to contact Crime Stoppers online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au or by calling 1800 333 000.
