University reverses plan to shut childcare centres after parent backlash
Griffith University announced on 16 October that it planned to close the centers by 17 December, with staff remaining on site until 19 December.
The university has told staff and parents that the buildings need extensive renovations and must remain closed until approximately mid-2026.

A spokesperson told this imprint that the university is in talks with a private service provider who will oversee the renovations and subsequently manage the center after the closure.
Parents of about 100 children at the preschool and child care centers said they had to give notice at short notice and were unable to speak because many were also Griffith staff.
Tuck said the closure will force her son to start prep classes earlier than expected.
“The only ideal outcome was another year at Boronia,” he said.
“My son now has the opportunity to participate in his early education before going further [to] Build that love of learning.
Bryant met directly with parents last week at a meeting between the university, Mansfield member Corrine McMillan and school representatives. Yarranlea Primary SchoolIt is located on the defunct Griffith Mount Gravatt campus.
Griffith managers also held a meeting with parents in the CBD on Friday evening.
“Now we can go in and… have a real discussion, a really productive discussion.” [tonight]Tuck said.
“While we still have many questions about what will happen, staff will no longer lose their jobs by Christmas, we do not need to find alternative care, [and] “We can all breathe a little easier now.”
