Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, called Urdu the “most beautiful language in the world”. Speaking on the 105th foundation day of Jamia Milia Islamia University, the Minister also emphasized that harmony between Hindus and Muslims is vital for the progress and unity of India.
While praising the songs played in the auditorium of the university, the minister said, “I don’t know much about Urdu, but I can say that Urdu is the most beautiful language in the world.”
He added that Muslims are the largest minority among the six minorities of Christians, Muslims, Parsis, Jains, Sikhs and Buddhists. He added that the country cannot develop without Hindu-Muslim harmony.
“Of the six recognized minorities, Muslims constitute about 80%… It is the responsibility of the larger communities (Hindus and Muslims) to ensure harmony. If they live in peace, all other smaller communities will also continue to contribute to the growth of the country. Jamia Millia Islamia is the best symbol through which such a message can be spread,” Mr. Rijiju said.

The minister also praised the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) in the university and also praised the university’s national rankings and academic records.
Speaking about the workings of the Parliament, which includes members from all communities from all over India, Mr. Rijiju, who is also Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, said people often witness noisy debates in the House but it should also be seen as a part of ‘vibrant democracy’.
“MPs come from different regions and different ideologies. It is natural for them to express their opinions. That is what the opposition is about. Therefore, there is no need for excessive concern.”
The minister also underlined India’s constitutional strength and diversity. “We will be safe because the Constitution covers every problem and provides solutions,” he said.
