US diplomatic facility in Baghdad targeted in drone strike

A retaliatory drone strike by pro-Iran militias hit a major US diplomatic facility in Baghdad on Tuesday, The Washington Post reported.
The newspaper said The strike hit the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center and no injuries were immediately reported.
Six drones were launched towards the compound, five of which were shot down.
A drone crashed near a watchtower and people at the facility were instructed to “duck down and take cover,” the Post reported, citing a security official and a State Department alert.

The warning said, “Liability continues.”
The Iraqi defense ministry condemned the drone and missile attacks on Martyr Muhammad Alaa Air Base and Martyr Ali Fallah Air Base in its post on the X site, but did not directly mention the attack on the US facility or Iran.
“In response to these sinful attacks, the Ministry wishes to clarify and confirm the following facts: These air bases are entirely sovereign and Iraqi, subject entirely to the authority of the state and the law, and there is no representation in them of any foreign power,” the government account said.
The security official told the Washington Post that the attack was likely carried out by militias affiliated with the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a loose umbrella group of Iran-linked Shiite armed groups that has claimed responsibility for attacks on US forces in the region.
