Rescue teams were using heavy machines to clean the passes that were blocked to try to reach miners.
Codelco, rescue teams in the mine 24 m (78.7ft) blocked passages, he said.
El Teniente is located in the Andes Mountains in the center of Chile.
Authorities said they investigated whether the earthquake was the reason for mining or natural tectonic changes.
