Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday, December 1, 2025, said that the Congress government’s strict implementation of the Prevention of Illegal Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has yielded significant results in tackling the state’s drug problem.

‘When the Congress government came to power, we faced many challenges but we decided to face them head on. We have broken the backbone of big drug suppliers and inter-state gangs,’ he said at a meeting in Dharamshala after organizing the ‘anti-chitta (heroin) awareness March’.

“46 major traffickers have been detained under the PIT-NDPS Act. We have seized illegal property worth Rs. 46 billion. We will not stop until all traces of ‘chitta’ in Himachal are erased. This fight is not just against the traffickers but the entire drug mafia network and their empire,” he asserted.

The Prime Minister announced that rewards will be given to those who provide information about those involved in ‘chitta’ business. “The rewards include ₹10,000 for chitta up to 2 grams, ₹25,000 for up to 5 grams, ₹50,000 for up to 25 grams, ₹5 lakh for up to 1 (one) kg and ₹10 lakh for more than 1 (one) kg. Information can be obtained from the emergency number 112,” he said.

He said Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Special Task Force (STF), police, education, health and social justice units including citizens are working to eliminate this menace.

The event was attended by many school children and people from various segments of society, and the Prime Minister promised the public to fight against drugs.
