US pilot and influencer released from Chilean air base in Antarctica

The American pilot Ethan Guo was released from a Chilean airbase in Antarctica after he was detained for two months because his plane was allegedly illegally descending into the country’s region.

20 -year -old Mr. Guo was released on Saturday. He was ordered to pay $ 30,000 (£ 22,332) and was banned from entering Chile for three years.

The young pilot and influencer are accused of reducing the plane without permission after giving the authorities a fake flight plan to seven continents to collect money for cancer research.

Lawyer Jaime Barrientos Ramírez told BBC to the US partner CBS News, Mr Guo is “quite good”.

As reported by the CBS News, “Of course, we do not accept the legal process against him, but it was already closed with a kind of dismissal.” He said.

He is expected to donate his sentence for childhood cancer research within 30 days. It should also leave the country as soon as possible.

BBC contacted Mr. Barrientos Ramírez for a comment.

Ethan Guo was 19 years old when he began his journey to be the youngest flying solo to the continent, and he also hoped to gather $ 1 million (£ 740,300) for cancer research through the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.

After visiting six of seven continents, in June, the small Cessna 182Q plane flew from Punta Arenas, Chile to King George Island on the Atlantic coast.

The island is demanded by Chile and is named after King George III in England.

Originally from Tennessee, Mr. Guo was detained after landing on a number of international research stations and staff.

Authorities said that the BBC offers a plan to fly through Punta Arenas, according to the US partner CBS News, but it is not beyond that.

On June 29, it was claimed that he gave incorrect information to ground control and landing without being authorized, but they were left by a judge last month.

He said he wanted to continue his original task once that could leave the military base before.
