US President Donald Trump became the first person to win the FIFA Peace Prize in the 2026 World Cup draw held in Washington. FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented Trump with his award for his “outstanding actions to promote peace around the world” at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Friday.
When presenting the award, Infantino told Trump that it was “a beautiful medal for you to wear wherever you want to go.” Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also attended the event. About the newly created FIFA peace prize
The FIFA peace prize was announced in November and the first winner of the award was Donald Trump. FIFA has defined it as an honor meant to “reward individuals who have committed outstanding and extraordinary acts for peace and, in doing so, united people around the world.” The governing body has not disclosed details of the selection process so far.
What did President Trump say in his acceptance speech?
President Trump was present at the ceremony and accepted the award, calling it one of the greatest honors of his life and claiming to have saved the lives of millions of people.
“This is truly one of the greatest honors of my life, and it’s beyond awards. I don’t need awards. I need to save lives. I’ve saved millions of lives, and that’s what I really want to do.”
“For example, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, more than 10 million people were killed and it was moving very quickly towards 10 million… India-Pakistan, there are so many different wars that in some cases we can end them a little bit before they start, right before they start. It would be late, but we finished them,” he added.
