Seven Pakistani police officers killed in bomb attack

Police in the northwestern Tank district said seven Pakistani police officers were killed when a targeted bomb exploded on their armored vehicle, amid a rising tide of militants.

In the footage of the attack, the shattered wreckage of the vehicle that overturned on the roadside can be seen.

In the statement, the Islamist militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack.

Tank deputy superintendent of police Pervez Shah said that five police personnel died on the spot after the remote-controlled bomb exploded, while two other police personnel died in hospital.

“Brave police officers sacrificed their days for the peaceful future of the nation,” Interior Minister Muhsin Naqvi said in his statement. he said.

‌Pakistan’s northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where Tank is located, has struggled with a resurgence of militant violence, mainly carried out by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

Pakistan accused the Afghan Taliban of providing a safe haven to TTP militants and said they were using Afghan territory to plan attacks on targets in Pakistan.

Afghanistan denied the accusations, saying Pakistan’s security was an internal issue.

Pakistan and Afghanistan are in the midst of a fragile ceasefire following October border clashes that left dozens dead, the worst clashes since the Taliban came to power in Kabul in 2021.
