US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Donald Trump administration may be willing to ‘correct’ 25 percent tariffs applied to India on Russian oil purchases. In an interview with NBC News, Rubio spoke about the US’s end of the conflict in Ukraine and hoped that additional tariffs for India could be corrected.
“We have already seen the measures we have taken about India, but this is something we hope to fix.” He said. Rubio blamed European countries for not doing enough. I think Europe’s sanction application is also important. Currently, there are countries that buy large amounts of oil and natural gas from Russia, which is still absurd in Europe. They want to impose more sanctions from the US, but there are countries that do not do enough in Europe. I think they need to do more, “Rubio stressed. Rubio retained the possibility of additional sanctions in Russia.
“At some point, he may need to decide to implement new sanctions. The president can do more and he is thinking of doing more because of it.” His statement comes the day after a meeting in New York with Foreign Minister (EAM) Jaishankar. After the talks, Rubio said that it was a “critical” value for India’s country and welcomed the ongoing trade interactions.
Eam Jaishankar also published in X, “Our speech included a number of bilateral and international issues related to the current concern. He agreed on the importance of participation in priority areas.”
Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, met with US trade representative Jamieson Greer in New York on Monday to negotiate the first tranche of a trade agreement between the two sides. Sources said that the meeting focused on addressing the important points of adhesion to IANS and that both sides were hopeful in reaching a temporary understanding soon.
