Sheriff’s office volunteer killed in line of duty honored with intersection dedication

Community members join family of a sheriff’s office volunteer killed in the line of duty He will dedicate an intersection in his memory on Monday.
Sergeant. Rob Muth, a retired law enforcement officer, was volunteering to direct traffic with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office during the Cumming Christmas Parade on Dec. 13 when he was struck by a vehicle. He died on December 14 due to his injuries.
Cumming dedicated the intersection of Castleberry and Buford Dam roads as “Sergeant Rob Muth Memorial Interchange.”
Along with members of Muth’s family, the sign presentation included Mayor Troy Brumbalow, City Council members Christopher Light, Joey Cochran, Jason Evans, Susie Charles-Carr and Chad Crane, Sheriff Ron Freeman, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Citizens Emergency Response Team volunteers, Cumming Police Department officers, Forsyth County Fire Chief Barry Head and firefighters.
Muth was described as a “lifelong public servant” who retired from the Boca Raton, Florida Police Department after 21 years of service. He served as a Bluecoat Security Officer with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office for two years, volunteered with the sheriff’s office’s Citizens Assisting Police Division, and most recently with the Citizens Emergency Response Team.
The driver who collided with Muth was 68-year-old Ronnie Jake Kirby. Charged with four misdemeanors.
