St. John’s Dylan Darling has special March Madness moment

March Madness has a new girlfriend.

St. St. John’s Red Storm guard Dylan Darling found a lane and drove it. With four seconds left in the game, he outran Kansas Jayhawks defender Elmarko Jackson and made the game-winning layup before time expired.

The Red Storm will advance to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament for the first time since 1999.

“It was ugly, but we took care of it,” Darling said.

No. 4 seed St. St. John’s struggled late in the second half as Kansas pressured the floor. St. St. John’s was ahead by 10 points with 6:36 left in the game. But with a few missed shots and a few turnovers, the Jayhawks got right back into the game.

Kansas star Darryn Peterson made two free throws with 13 seconds left in the game. The 5th-seeded Jayhawks had four fouls to call, and they used them all to close the game with about four seconds left. The idea was to keep the Red Storm on their toes and prevent them from establishing a good on-field play.

But Darling had the last laugh with her two-point shot; this was his only point of the game. He recorded four assists and two steals.

Red Storm’s Zuby Ejofor and Bryce Hopkins scored 18 points each for St. He led St. John’s.

Peterson led Kansas with 21 points. Melvin Council Jr. Scored 15 points and Flory Bidunga scored 12 points.

This is the fourth straight year that Kansas has failed to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
