Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were at the Winter Olympics on Thursday to celebrate the U.S. women’s ice hockey team’s 5-1 win over the Czech Republic.
Vance and Rubio were seen in the crowd along with women’s ice hockey gold medalists Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson and Monique Lamoureux, speed skating gold medalist Apolo Anton Ohno and figure skating gold medalist Evan Lysacek.

Leading President Donald Trump’s Winter Olympics delegation, Vance’s first stop on his trip combining diplomacy and sports was Milan, and then he visited Armenia and Azerbaijan. When Alex Carpenter scored the first goal for the Americans, Vance was seen cheering for the red, white and blue.
“The whole country — Democrat, Republican, independent — we’re all rooting for you and rooting for you,” he told athletes earlier in the day.

VANCE, RUBIO WELCOME AMERICAN WINTER OLYMPians IN ITALY
Second lady Usha Vance also joined the delegation on the trip. The vice president said his wife “is not a sports fan” but “obsessively makes us watch the Olympics” every two years, suggesting that the rivals bring the country together.
“Everybody supports you and everybody supports you,” he added.
Carpenter’s goal started the scoring attack for Team USA. Hayley Scamurra led the team with two goals.
Hilary Knight, who participated in her last Olympics, added another goal along with Joy Dunne.

The Americans will next play against Finland. However, the Finnish team was dealing with a norovirus problem. This caused them to postpone their match against Canada until February 12.
