Venezuela’s Supreme Court orders country’s VP Delcy Rodriguez become interim president

The Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Venezuela decided on Saturday that Vice President Delcy Rodriguez would assume the role of “acting president” of the country in the absence of Nicolas Maduro, who was detained in the early hours of Saturday morning in an operation carried out by US forces.
The court decision stated that Rodríguez will assume “the office of President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to guarantee administrative continuity and the comprehensive defense of the Nation.”

The decision stated that the court would discuss the matter in order to “determine the applicable legal framework that will guarantee the continuity of the state, government administration and defense of sovereignty in the face of the forced absence of the President.”
