Veteran CPI (M) leader stabbed to death in Khammam district

Senior CPI (M) leader Samineni Rama Rao was brutally murdered by three unidentified assailants in his hometown Patharlapadu village in Chinthakani mandal of Khammam district in the early hours of Friday morning.
The gruesome murder of 75-year-old Rama Rao has sent shockwaves among the CPI(M) party cadre and leaders in the state.
This prompted the police to launch a detailed investigation into the grisly murder to track down the attackers and investigate the possible motive behind the gruesome crime.
Sources said that when Rama Rao was about to go for a morning walk at his home, three assailants attacked him with a knife and slit his throat, killing him on the spot.
Rama Rao was the State general secretary of the CPI(M)-affiliated Rythu Sangham in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh. He has served as a State Party committee member and sarpanch of Patharlapadu village in the past.
Khammam Police Chief Sunil Dutt inspected the scene.
A clue team and dog team were deployed to track down the attackers.
In his statement to Vikramarka, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti expressed shock and deep sorrow over the murder of Rama Rao.
He said that the perpetrators will be found, brought to justice and punished in accordance with the law.
He instructed the police officials concerned to deploy forensic and clue teams and use advanced technology to promptly solve the murder case and arrest the suspects.
He expressed his condolences to the members of Rama Rao’s bereaved family and assured them of his support.
A number of CPI(M) leaders and party cadres paid their last respects to the slain leader in Patharlapadu village on Friday evening.
CPI (M) State secretariat member Pothineni Sudarshan Rao said that comrade Rama Rao served the cause of farmers, laborers and toiling masses with unwavering devotion.
He alleged that Rama Rao’s murder was a “pre-planned” murder and that “some ruling Congress party cadres” were behind it.
“We will strive to realize the ideals of the slain comrade,” Mr. Rao said.
Meanwhile, district Congress leaders have denied these allegations, calling them “baseless”.
Congress leaders maintained that nonviolence was one of the core values of the Congress party.
