Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha Vance say they are expecting their fourth child

WASHINGTON: Vice President J.D. Vance and his wife, second lady Usha Vance, announced in a social media post on Tuesday that they are expecting a boy in late July.

The couple said they were excited to share the news of their fourth child, who will join their other three little ones, Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel.

Vance, 41, and his wife, 40, said in the post that both the mother and the baby were in good condition.

“During this exciting and hectic time, we are especially grateful to the military doctors who took excellent care of our family and to our staff who did so much to ensure we could serve the country while enjoying a wonderful life with our children,” the post said.

News about the Republican vice president’s growing family comes as he has spent years passionately advocating for Americans to have more children.

Vance has repeatedly expressed alarm about the decline in birth rates as he launches his political career with a 2021 run for U.S. Senate in Ohio. As vice president, he continued in this role, saying in his 2025 March Life Speech, “I want more babies in the United States.”
The vice president is accompanied by Usha Vance and her children on his foreign trips; children often wear pajamas when boarding Air Force Two for overnight excursions. Historically, it has been extremely rare for those in the highest leadership roles in the United States to have children while in office. A well-documented exception was President Grover Cleveland, whose wife Frances Cleveland gave birth to her second child during his second term in office in 1893.

The White House reissued Tuesday’s announcement, saying President Donald Trump’s administration is “the most pro-family administration in history.” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, 28, announced in December that she was expecting a girl in May.
