Justice Department reaches another settlement with Trump adviser Michael Flynn
Former Trump advisor Michael Flynn reached another agreement with the Justice Department; this time, for more than $38,000 in pension funds the Army withheld from the former general after authorities found he made money speaking at a Russian government event in 2015.
The new agreement follows a separate agreement between the two countries Flynn and Trump’s Justice Department Settled more than $1 million in damages after suing the government for unfair investigation. Flynn claimed that the FBI tried to entrap him in the early days of the Trump administration as investigators probed Russia’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 election.
CNN has reached out to lawyers for Flynn.
Flynn’s payments could serve as a playbook for those who want to apply for compensation through the now-defunct anti-gun fund that the Justice Department established earlier this year for those who believe they were victimized by the Justice Department.

Shortly after it was announced, amid intense criticism from Republican lawmakers, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told members of Congress that the fund was dead. Despite Blanche’s assurances, a federal judge required Blanche to submit an affidavit declaring that the fund had been terminated. Blanche has so far refused.
While discussing the fund’s demise, Blanche suggested other avenues for the Justice Department’s alleged victims, including civil lawsuits that Flynn had originally filed.
Flynn isn’t the only Trump ally to file a lawsuit with the Justice Department. In April, the Justice Department awarded a former Trump aide Carter Page He earned more than $1 million in 2016 after he sued over the government’s flawed surveillance of him because of his Russian connections.
According to court records, Flynn’s deal is still being unraveled.
The anti-gun fund was established earlier this year as part of a settlement with Trump after his tax information and that of several others were leaked to media outlets by an IRS contractor. In 2024, the contractor company was sentenced to 5 years in prison.
Despite her efforts, Blanche continues to face harsh criticism and questions about funding and the deal as she drops “acting” from her job title as she approaches her Senate confirmation hearing to become attorney general.
