Bangladesh’s ex-PM Khaleda Zia’s doctor shares update on her health, says ‘no deterioration in her condition’

Zia, the 80-year-old president of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has been receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka since November 23 for multiple health complications and was later transferred to the coronary care unit (CCU).
On December 11, he was given “ventilator support to rest his lungs and other vital organs.”
His personal doctor, AZM Zahid Hossain, said on Friday that Zia’s “condition is much more stable than before,” state-run BSS news agency reported.
“Currently, there has been no deterioration in her condition,” he said, adding that her physical condition has been “quite stable” over the past month.
Hossain said Zia also underwent minor surgery on Friday, which was completed “very successfully” and that he was “able to accept it well.”

He was scheduled to fly to London last week with the approval of the medical board, but his departure was postponed because the air ambulance offered by Qatar could not reach Dhaka.
Doctors later decided that Zia should continue his treatment at a hospital in Dhaka until he was deemed fit to fly.
Zia’s son and BNP deputy chairman Tarique Rahman will return home on December 25, ending his 17-year exile in London. PTI
