India To Challenge European Dominance in Homoeopathy

New Delhi: AYUSH experts said India has emerged as a major global player in the homeopathy sector, backed by a large practitioner base, an expanding research ecosystem and internationally accepted quality standards.

According to industry estimates, India has over 2.5 lakh registered homeopathy practitioners, nearly 300 educational institutions and millions of patients using homeopathy as a primary or complementary treatment system.

German homeopathy brands have historically dominated global markets, especially in Europe, and are widely recognized for their quality and research-based production, experts said.

But they said India is increasingly positioning itself to compete globally with the introduction of quality frameworks such as AYUSH Premium Mark and NABL accreditation.

Director of All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Dr. “The key difference lies in certified quality and scientific validation,” said Pradeep Prajapati.

He said that the AYUSH Premium Brand introduced by the Ministry of AYUSH represents global compliance in manufacturing, safety and quality management for AYUSH products.

Dr Prajapati added that the certification from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) provides international benchmarking standards for testing and quality control in line with globally recognized ISO standards.

Rajeshwar Tiwari, senior representative of the Ministry of AYUSH, said India has a large clinical data, practitioner and patient base in the homeopathy sector.

“When this experiential advantage is backed by certified quality frameworks such as AYUSH Premium and NABL, Indian homeopathy gains globally comparable scientific credibility. This integration of research, regulatory and manufacturing excellence is crucial to compete with established European brands,” he said.

Adven Biotech became the first homeopathy company in India to receive both AYUSH Premium Mark and NABL certification.

Adven Biotech CEO Adesh Sharma said the certifications strengthen the global credibility of Indian homeopathy.

“AYUSH Premium and NABL are not just certifications; they are global passports for Indian homeopathy,” he said.

India already exports homeopathic medicines to more than 100 countries and internationally compliant certifications could help expand its presence in regulated global markets in the coming years, experts said.
