A1 Cambridgeshire crash: Toddler killed and five others in hospital after major collision days before Christmas

A two-year-old boy has died in a horror crash on the A1 in Cambridgeshire just days before Christmas.

A further five people were taken to hospital after their Toyota Auris broke down on the northbound carriageway after passing Stibbington Junction and was hit by a Volkswagen Touran at around 6.20pm.

While the little boy sitting in the Toyota died, the other five passengers were taken to Peterborough City Hospital with serious injuries.

The 64-year-old driver of the Volkswagen was slightly injured.

He was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was released on bail until March 20.

Cambridgeshire Police are now appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage to assist the investigation.

Sergeant David Mcllwhan said: “Our thoughts are with the parents and family of this young child who tragically lost his life in this collision.

“The family is supported by specialist family liaison officers.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision or has camera footage but was unable to stop at the scene to get in touch.”

Anyone with information about the moments leading up to the incident or the collision itself should report it to police online, quoting incident number 401 of 20 December.
