Virtusa Foundation Restores Ranglal Kunta Lake in Hyderabad’s Financial District

Hyderabad: Virtusa Corporation, a leading product and platform engineering services company, through its philanthropic arm Virtusa Foundation, has successfully completed the restoration of Ranglal Kunta Lake in Hyderabad’s Financial District. The project, in partnership with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and implemented by United Way of Hyderabad, has transformed the 3.5-acre lake near Virtusa’s Hyderabad campus into a thriving urban ecosystem and a clean, green recreational area for the surrounding communities.
The rejuvenation underlines Virtusa Foundation’s continuous efforts to create sustainable environmental impact and improve community well-being. The comprehensive restoration program, which has been going on for over two and a half years, has now transformed the dry lake bed into a healthy water body that can sustain both nature and community life. This dry lake bed regained its full water holding capacity of 24 million liters, ensuring year-round water retention. The return of more than 14 species of native birds, butterflies and other fauna and flora has revitalized the local ecosystem. Improved groundwater recharge and improved microclimate provided direct benefits to employees working in the immediate vicinity of the financial district.
Ranglal Kunta Lake was suffering from constant sewage discharge from Nanakramguda district for a long time. With the support of GHMC, these sewer inlets were diverted to a nearby sewer, resolving the long-standing environmental problem and allowing restoration to proceed. The rejuvenation involved extensive cleaning and deepening of the lake bed, construction of a stony embankment, and installation of aeration-assisted bioremediation systems. The project also introduced a securely fenced pedestrian walkway, a landscaped green area with vegetation, pergolas, pergolas and seating areas, and a sluice gate to regulate water levels and maintain ecological balance. The restored lake now serves as a community-friendly green space that connects people to nature while supporting a healthy ecosystem. This contributes to Hyderabad’s vision of sustainable urban living and reflects Virtusa’s belief that healthy environments grow stronger communities.
The renovated lake was inaugurated today in the presence of Arekapudi Gandhi, MLA, Serilingampally; Hemanth Borkhade, IAS, District Commissioner, GHMC; M. Kavitha, District Commissioner, TGIIC; Madhuri Duggirala, VP, Site Lead, gTech Advertising Solutions, Google Hyderabad. Their participation reflected a shared vision for sustainable urban development and environmental revitalization in the Hyderabad Financial District.
