Postal carriers in Europe are preparing to end a long -standing trade rule, while the nations plan to suspend some posts to the USA.
Germany, Spain, France, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway and some shipments from Switzerland, President Donald Trump’ın century “in the minimis” exemption “will be paused in the days and weeks after signing the execution order.
Sometimes the so -called “emptiness” trade policy allowed valuable shipments below $ 800 to enter the United States almost without occupational. The application will end for imports from around the world on Friday after Trump’s executive order.
The minimis exemption for the goods from China and Hong Kong, which has long announced a large part of these posts, ended in May.
Suspensions will affect valuable posts below $ 800 and except gifts and letters to a large extent. Most countries said that they should pause the posts because their systems are not built for new requirements and that they are not sure how to process submissions under new rules.
In a statement on Friday, German -based international shipping company DHL, Deutsche Post and DHL parcel said Germany could not accept and carry the targeted parcels for the United States.
Customers will be able to send goods through DHL Express, which is still more expensive.
National mails in Spain, France and Belgium issued similar notifications.
In a news bulletin, Correos, Spain’s national post Office, said that he learned the detailed needs to comply with the executive order on August 15th and did not have enough time to change his systems.
“This is forcing Correos to significantly change and increase shipment controls to implement new customs requirements, along with all postal operators who manage the United States, Correos.
He said he was trying to continue to posts “as quickly as possible”.
Belgium’s post office said that it was suspended from posts starting on Saturday, and from France La poste, posts will be suspended starting on Monday.
Meanwhile, Finland’s post office stopped accepting the goods of the United States on Saturday, but he added that he could no longer accept gifts or letters, because he said, “A few airlines refused to move any mail goods to the United States.”
Carriers said They expect the suspensions to be temporary. Stops may delay some posts, but most of them are not expected to affect international trade.
Both domestic and internationally larger retailers do not tend to use their minimal exemption because they send their property to the US warehouses through containers and pay tariffs to goods. Two major exceptions are Temu and Shein, which popularizes minimis use and trusts for most of the US consumers. Since it ended for the goods sent from China from China, the demand for Shein and Temu fell as prices rose.
Suspended shipments are expected to directly affect smaller orders of Americans shopping from smaller European enterprises.
