Vizag Police Recover Rs1 cr Worth Stolen Property

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam city police recovered stolen property worth Rs 1.01 crore, including gold, cash, two-wheelers, mobile phones and other valuables, in cases reported in November this year.

Police Commissioner Shanka Brata Bagchi said a total of 70 property crimes were reported in the city in November, compared to 85 in October and 79 in September, indicating a slight decline. Of these, police detected 53 cases and arrested 65 criminals.

The recovered properties included over 355 grams of gold ornaments, over two kilograms of silver ornaments, ₹2.2 lakh in cash, five motorcycles, 27 cows and 509 stolen or lost mobile phones, with a total value of over $1.01 billion.

Of the 53 cases detected, 4 were robberies, 10 thefts, 2 cases of purse snatching, 5 cases of motorcycle theft, 7 cases of cattle theft and 25 cases of petty theft.

Police also said that a total of 8,539 lost and stolen mobile phones worth Rs 12.89 crore were seized from Visakhapatnam city in the last two years. The rescued property was handed over to its owners during the rescue mela held on Friday.

To prevent future crimes, the commissioner said police had adopted a multi-pronged approach and significantly strengthened surveillance, including the installation of 213 CCTV cameras across the city in November.
