Collingwood Magpies open to January relocation to help Australian Open tennis tournament grow

“We have a strong working relationship with Craig Tiley and his team at Tennis Australia, John Harnden and his team at Melbourne Park and the State Government and any proposals will progress collaboratively with all key stakeholders.”

AO chief executive Tiley said on Saturday the tournament was aiming to radically expand and innovate in its next phase. Plans included an interactive glass court and an immersive dome with 270-degree screens.

As weather protection, Tiley proposed a “translucent dome covering the entire area” similar to the one in Dallas, USA.

“There’s an oval on the other side of Gosch’s Paddock, AAMI Park, MCG, those are good pieces of land and property that we can look at and expand,” Tiley said.

Tiley, who was given more information about the vision on Monday, confirmed Tennis Australia would work with Collingwood to consider options.

“Them [Collingwood] It was great to explain what the options are,” Tiley said.

“Of course there is pre-season training and we don’t want to disrupt any of that, but there is a way to make more use of this area and the facilities they have.”
