Voll century fires Australia in crushing win over India

There is a perception that the young duo will be racing in Australian colors for the next decade.

Litchfield moved to the offside side early and then charged down the leg side with power to remove three consecutive boundaries from Kranti Gaud.

He passed 2000 international runs in all three formats, then completed his half-century with a classic cover drive towards the boundary, followed by another.

Both the batsmen showed maturity and great pace throughout the innings.

Voll, who stood out in nine ODI matches, received superb support from Beth Mooney (31) – the duo added 82 for the third wicket.

A second consecutive half-century partnership between Harmanpreet (54) and all-rounder Kashvee Gautam (25) earned India a modest total, well short of the 300-plus score the field had partial suggested.

Annabel Sutherland took 2-37 and Australian spinners Ashleigh Gardner (2-39) and Alana King (2-41) did well to restrict India, who will rue not being able to make the most of several dropped catches after winning the toss.

Australia suffered another injury blow ahead of the match with spinner and vice-captain Sophie Molineux ruled out of the entire series with a back injury.

His place in the Molineux side was taken by all-rounder Nicola Carey in her first ODI since 2022.

India improved to 0-78 before the hosts entered the contest.

In-form Smriti Mandhana (31) was bowled by Gardner while playing the paddle sweep.

On the other hand, Pratika Rawal (52) was in a calm form with her protection drives throughout the class.

He scored it midway through, looking for an ill-advised single. Harmanpreet turned around and Rawal was left stranded.

Deepti Sharma made just one before a swipe towards King’s deep mid-on led to her demise.

Mooney made a deft juggling move to dismiss Amanjot Kaur, countered Carey and wicketkeeper Ghosh (21) looked dangerous until King pinned her in front and the score was 6-162.

Gautam and Harmanpreet then settled into a significant stance.

Cricket Australia had previously confirmed that Molineux “will be monitored ahead of the tour to the West Indies”.

Molineux, if fit, will captain the team in the Caribbean in mid-March, with current captain Alyssa Healy retiring at the end of that series.
