WA diver reveals terrifying Great White encounter, how animal ‘grinned’ while stalking him

A quick-thinking diver lived to tell the tale of his encounter with a Great White Shark off the coast of Western Australia
Tanveer Dhillon was diving off Ocean Reef on Sunday when she suddenly felt a push from behind.
“My first instinct was ‘why is my dive buddy kicking me?’ happened. so I turned around and saw it wasn’t a person, it was a shark, total panic,” Mr Dhillon said.
To his horror, it was a shark that crashed him into a sandbox.
Tanveer quickly sought shelter and tucked herself under a ledge to hide from the shark.
The shark circled him for 10 minutes, taking one last look as the air tank emptied.
“I could see the great white grinning directly at me; my heart was in my mouth and now that memory is forever etched in my mind and I still feel the chills when I see that moment,” Mr. Dhillon told 7NEWS.
When the shark finally disappeared, Mr Dhillon called his diving buddies and encouraged them to swim to the safety of the boat.
The close call didn’t diminish Mr Dhillon’s love of diving, but he admitted he was counting his lucky stars after the ordeal.
“This is the shark’s territory and we are just visitors there and we understand that we need to be careful with that.”

Mr Dhillon hopes his story will educate other divers that it is important to remain calm and cool during a crisis.
“I’m pretty sure if I had had a knee-jerk reaction and gone straight to the surface he would have gone for me,” Mr Dhillon said.
