Cuomo warns socialism could be ‘death of New York’ in NYC mayor race

New York mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo warned voters against socialism, saying such policies could signal the “death of New York.” Cuomo argued that the socialist movement was driving businesses out of the city and threatening public safety.

“Whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, it’s going to be the death of New York as we know it,” Cuomo said on “Saturday in America.”

The former Democratic New York governor is locked in a three-way race with Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.

Throughout the race, Cuomo has positioned himself as an opponent of socialist policies. He promised to restore public safety and rebuild trust in businesses.

“New York scared them [businesses] I decided to go to Florida. This Democratic socialist movement – ​​this has not just begun. This has been increasing for years. And it’s been very strong in New York City,” Cuomo said of the recent job migration.

He drew attention to what he called “hostility” towards business, referring to the canceled Amazon headquarters project, which he claimed would bring 25,000 jobs to the city, but was “stopped by socialists”.

“We need jobs. Jobs are the engine that moves the train. This is New York. We are the capitalist capital of the country,” Cuomo said.

“We want entrepreneurs. We want talent. We want you to bring your business here. This is opportunity. This is growth. This is America.”

Cuomo also criticized what he called the far-left’s “anti-police” agenda, which he said has led to increased crime and fewer police on the streets.

“We have the lowest police force in modern political history because this far-left socialist mentality defunded the police,” Cuomo said, promising to add 5,000 police officers if elected. he said.

Appealing to Republican and moderate voters, Cuomo emphasized that his campaign was about “saving” New York City from ideological extremes.
