WA Police searching for gunman accused of shooting woman
Police are searching for an alleged gunman at large in Western Australia.
Significant police resources have been deployed to find 58-year-old Kenneth Giles, who is accused of shooting a woman he knew at a home in Mullewa on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident took place on Urawa Road at around 17.20.
WA Police Acting Superintendent Tom Micklewright said police, including the air wing and tactical response, spent the night searching for the man.
“The man fled the area armed with a firearm and is believed to be traveling in a white Nissan Patrol Utility vehicle with WA registration ‘1BIY336’,” he said.
The injured woman was shot in the arm and was taken to Geraldton Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Micklewright appealed to the community to be mindful of their surroundings and called for triple zero if they spotted Giles.
“We understand this may cause concern in the community… although this has not yet been resolved, I would like to reassure the community that significant resources have been allocated,” he said.
Police are focusing their search on the Mullewa area, a small, idyllic town in WA’s Mid-West.
People who were in the house at the time of the conflict are also interviewed, and Micklewright conveys this message to Giles.
“We want to resolve this case and make sure everyone’s welfare is taken into consideration, so if you are listening please identify yourself to the police,” he said.
