Wadephul warns Putin against playing ‘for time’ in Ukraine war
On Monday, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul called on Russian President Vladimir Putin with rapid negotiations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but also threatened with more sanctions against Moscow.
“If the president Putin thinks he can play for time, he will be calculated wrong,” Wadephul said at his meeting with his Croatian counterpart Gordan Gordan Radman and the capital Zagreb.
Wadephul, stressing that the pressure should continue to be applied to Russia, the European Union’s 19th sanction package against the country, he added.
Wadephul is now to prove Putin to prove that he was really willing to work for a peace.
“Based on everything we see, there are significant doubts about it.” He said that Ukraine was willing to negotiate without further prerequisites.
“It is clear that there will be no negotiation on the heads of Ukrainians. This is our common European promise.”
“We will continue to support them politically, economically and militaryly,” he said to Ukraine.
Croatia demands peace without violent border changes
Radman also continued to support Ukraine on the path of a fair and permanent peace without making any changes in the borders of violence.
“We know that any other scenario will have negative consequences for the security of Southeast Europe and especially the Western Balkans.” Croatia understands that only one peace can be permanent.
“Other solutions that reward the attacker, both in Europe and globally, have the potential to expand and instability.” He said.
