Starmer cannot change international law
I’m not sure I understand. Starmer cannot change international law – this is not within his duty or authority. The ECHR laws arise from the Council of Europe (COE) and all member states must convey it to their national laws. They are not binding, but national laws should follow the principles they cover.
It would be a great target to remove Russia and Belarus from Coe. The UK/EU and the UK would eliminate most of the pan-European agreements.
The British courts cannot be ordered to not obey or ignore the international laws registered by the UK; However, the Supreme Court can guide and publish them for implementing them. So I’m not clear what he’s suggesting.
