India-Bangladesh Visa Procedures
Bangladesh’s visa operations in Delhi and Siliguri have been temporarily suspended following recent incidents, a foreign ministry official told ANI on Monday.
The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi also said in a statement that all consular and visa services have been temporarily suspended.
The suspension follows reports of unrest and security concerns near the diplomatic mission last week.
Meanwhile, the Indian Visa Application Center (IVAC) in Chittagong announced immediate suspension of all visa processing with effect from Sunday following a security incident at the Deputy High Commission of India (AHCI) in the port city.
Bangladesh Agitation
Inqilab Moncho, one of the leading platforms that rose during the ‘July Uprising’ in Bangladesh, on Monday warned of launching a mass movement to oust the country’s current interim government if justice is not served in the murder of the collector, ANI reported, citing Daily Star.
The warning was made by the organisation’s member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber at an emergency press conference held at Shaheed Hadi Chattar earlier today.
This comes after Inquilab Moncho collector Sharif Osman Hadi was shot in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar area.
He was shot at close range while traveling in a rickshaw on December 12. He was flown to Singapore by air ambulance for further treatment on 15 December, but later died from his injuries on 18 December.
Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the interim Government of Bangladesh, announced that national mourning was declared on December 20.
Hadi was also being considered as a potential Dhaka-8 candidate for the February 2026 national elections.
Bangladesh Legal Adviser Asif Nazrul on Monday said that the murder case of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi will be handled by the Speedy Trial Court for timely delivery of justice, Daily Star reported.
