BBC Sports Personality of the Year to be held on 18 December

The 2025 BBC Sports Personality of the Year will be held at MediaCityUK in Salford on Thursday 18 December.
Gabby Logan, Alex Scott and Clare Balding will present the show live from 19:00 GMT on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport website and app.
From England’s victories in the Women’s European Championship and Women’s Rugby World Cup to Team Europe’s Ryder Cup win, Liverpool’s Premier League title, Arsenal’s Women’s Champions League success and the British and Irish Lions’ winning streak in Australia, 12 months of incredible sporting drama and triumph will be celebrated.
Seven awards will be handed out, including the prestigious main prize won by Olympic 800 meters champion Keely Hodgkinson last year.
This will be determined by public vote for the first time, like the Team of the Year.
BBC Sport Director Alex Kay-Jelski said: “This year is full of amazing sports moments and stories again. I’m glad I don’t have to choose who to vote for!
“We have witnessed drama, triumph and unforgettable moments on a global scale, and our homegrown stars, especially women, have excelled like never before.
“I can’t wait to see who the public chooses to take home the win and celebrate another great year.”
The seven award categories for 2025 are: BBC Sports Personality of the Year; World Sports Star of the Year; Helen Rollason award; Young Athlete of the Year; Coach of the Year; Team of the Year and Lifetime Achievement award.
The contestants for the Athlete of the Year and Team of the Year awards will be announced in December.
Viewers will also be able to vote for World Sports Star of the Year before the live show.
Once the shortlists have been announced, all voting for this year’s awards will be available online at bbc.co.uk/spoty.
