Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson endorses ‘Abolish ICE’ snowplow name

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson gave his “complete and total support” to the name “Remove the ICE” ahead of the city’s annual snowplow naming contest.
Earlier this month, the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation launched its fourth annual campaign. Snow Plow Naming ContestThis allows people to suggest names and vote for the city’s snowplows.
Past winners have included funny names like “CTRL-SALT-DELETE” and “Salter Payton.”

This year, one of the prominent names on social media was the term “Abolish ICE,” a slogan used by progressive activists and politicians against the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
On MS NOW’s “Politics Nation” on Saturday, Johnson, who has been vocally opposed to the Trump administration’s immigration operations, backed the name.

“[Trump] used [ICE] “as a privatized force to mobilize terrorism,” Johnson said. “And it’s not just terrorism, it’s causing great harm to people. And so we’ve held firm to our values for several years in this city. And that coincided with the time when we named all of our fleet services.”

He continued, “And of course, you know, we need to take a closer look at how this administration is using ICE and how it’s causing tremendous harm. That’s why it’s in my full and complete support that this truck be specifically named ‘Abolish ICE.'”

Johnson promoted a snowplow naming contest on the X account and highlighted an X user’s suggestion to “Remove ICE.”
Fox News Digital has reached out to ICE for comment.
Chicago residents can submit their names through Jan. 10 or until the city receives 20,000 applications. The city will then select 25 finalists for residents to vote on from Feb. 1 through Feb. 14. The first six names will be used on a snowplow in each of the city’s six wards.
