Michael J. Fox ends 5-year retirement with personal role on ‘Shrinking’

Five years after his retirement, the “Back to the Future” star will return to the screens in the upcoming season of “Shrinking” in his most personal role yet. Fox, who has been struggling with Parkinson’s disease since 1991, admitted that he lived life “at the limit of my energy.”

“I just feel like I should,” he said USA Today. “It’s a trade-off. I want to be around for everything.”

“I want to be active in everything, continue to work, maintain my partnerships, good friends and enjoy the time I spend with my family,” he added. “And everything is fine; much better than it could have been.”

Throughout much of his prolific acting career, Fox had to find ways to overcome his symptoms. But he got his first role where he didn’t have to worry about his illness.

Fox filmed a three-episode guest episode for the third season of “Shrinking,” and her character suffers from Parkinson’s disease.

“It was my first time on set and I didn’t have to worry about whether I was too tired or coughing or anything,” he said. People. “I just do it. It’s been really good, because in those moments where I’m like, ‘I can’t do this,’ I’m like, ‘Okay, I’ll deal with how I can’t do that on stage.’ And you get over it.”

While watching “Shrinking,” the actor realized that a character played by Harrison Ford had Parkinson’s disease. He said he called series co-creator Bill Lawrence, with whom he worked on “Spin City.”

“‘You made a show about Parkinson’s and you didn’t call me?’ I said. And he said, ‘Oh, you want to do that?’ he said. And I said, ‘I’d love to do that,'” Fox recalled.

“So he said, ‘Let me think about it, see what I can do.’ So he started working on it and came up with this concept, it’s really good.”

Fox’s return to acting followed a five-year hiatus during which he began his retirement. The “Family Ties” star opened up in an interview about her future with the “mysterious” disease, which she was first diagnosed with at age 29. Times.

“There’s no timeline, there’s not a series of stages you go through, not like there is with prostate cancer, for example. It’s much more mysterious and mysterious,” he explained.
