The state government has approved and directed the filling of 15,000 teacher posts in government primary and high schools in the state.
Apart from this, 6,967 posts have been reserved for Kalyana Karnataka cadre and 8,033 posts have been reserved for non-Kalyana Karnataka cadre.
Of these, 8,500 are Postgraduate Primary Teacher (GPT), 4,500 are Assistant Professional (AM) positions, 900 are Primary School Teacher (PST) positions, 600 are Physical Education Teacher (PET) positions and 500 are Computer Science teachers. The government has decided to fill these posts in 2026-27.
Language proficiency
However, the Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has objected to the government’s decision to make English language proficiency tests mandatory during recruitment.
KDA chairman Purushottama Bilimale, in his letter to the Prime Minister, demanded the abolition of the English language proficiency test in the ongoing recruitment process of 15,000 teachers by the Department of School Education.
“The decision to stop the recruitment of Kannada teachers and make English language proficiency test compulsory for the recruitment of teachers of various subjects is a blow to the Kannada language and the language policy of the State,” he said.
Prof. Bilimale called on the government to give opportunities to Kannada teacher posts in recruitment and withdraw the English language proficiency test.
