Warning of energy bill ‘cliff-edge’ after costs go up £700 in five years

Since the government is asked to take action to combat increasing costs, millions of people face a “cliff edge” to support energy bills.

Approximately six million people will benefit from the hot home discount this year, which provides 150 £ discount on energy bills for qualifying households.

However, a new report, which was made by the disability aid scope, found that many of them would encounter a gap in 2026 after the end of this plan.

The research conducted by the public finds that energy bills are £ 700 higher than 2021 and that millions of people are struggling to cover the costs of life pressure.

Currently, it is estimated that approximately 2 million households owe and 6.1 million live live in fuel poverty.

The findings announced that ofgem’s energy price limit will increase by two percent in October and that it will receive the average invoice from £ 1,720 to £ 1,755.

Abdi Mohamed, the President of the Policy, Research and Scope, said: “The system is broken. As fuel poverty expands, millions of disabled people are pushed deeper and deeper into fuel poverty.

“If you are disabled, your life is more expensive – an average of £ 1,095 per month.

“The government should urgently act to close the destructive gap to support and address this crisis.”

Energy company E.ON and AGE UK signed the government to extend the government to extend the hot home discount and to raise the increasing costs to 400 £.

This should only be the beginning, the groups require more discounted energy bill support until 2027/28. This comes in the form of a ‘social tariff’ starting from 700 £ discounts for the households that are most in need.

Unlike the hot home discount, which was expanded to most benefits this year, the new tariff would offer conical, vehicle tested support to all digits that have won below £ 30,000.

The government plans to consult the future of a hot home discount after 2026 this year.

E.ON UK General Manager Chris Norbury said: “Millions of households are still struggling with inappropriate energy bills and the current approach does not reach the most help.

“A more targeted approach to supporting the low -income and vulnerable household peoples funded appropriately throughout the government and industry throughout the industry will have a long way to remove people from fuel poverty and provide the permanent change to make the energy really appropriate in the future.”

A government spokesman said: uz We help more than six million households by expanding the hot home discount of more than six million this winter and working with Ofgem in a debt evacuation plan to reduce bills for each house.

“The only way to reduce energy bills well is the government’s fossil fuel prices from the Rollercoaster and the clean energy that will bring to the host power.”
