Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday, November 7, 2025, said that ‘Vande Mataram’ continues to ignite the eternal flame of nationalism in the hearts of citizens and continues to be a source of unity, patriotism and renewed energy among the youth even today.

“‘Vande Mataram’ against the British regime united the nation and strengthened the consciousness of freedom. It also awakened in the revolutionaries the spirit of unwavering devotion, pride and sacrifice for the motherland,” Mr. Shah said.

He said that it continues to ignite the eternal flame of nationalism in the hearts of citizens and continues to be a source of unity, patriotism and renewed energy among the youth even today.

“Our national song completes 150 years this year,” Mr. Shah said, while urging citizens to commemorate the song by singing the full version of it with family members, ensuring that the song remains a center of inspiration for future generations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the year-long celebration of the national song at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on Friday, November 7, and will also release a commemorative stamp and coin.

The program will be the official launch of a year-long nationwide commemoration of the composition that inspired India’s freedom movement and continues to evoke national pride and unity.

‘Vande Mataram’, composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, was first published in the literary magazine ‘Bangadarshan’ on 7 November 1875.

“Later, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee included the hymn in his immortal novel ‘Anandamath’, published in 1882. It was set to music by Rabindranath Tagore.
